CINCINNATI – Bengali Wide Angle Receiver A.J. Green has taken off his protective boots and is making progress in his recovery after an ankle operation in the preseason.
Green said he had run for about 10 minutes on Tuesday and had a leg workout on Wednesday with the strength and conditioning coach Joey Boese from Bengals. Green said he feels good after training, although his room for maneuver is still limited.
"Everything's going in a good direction," Green said in his first public commentary since the torn ligament in the first training session and surgery.
Although neither he nor Bengal coach Zac Taylor has a timetable for his return, the latest development is a positive sign that Green may be back sooner than expected. Green said he felt that he was ahead of schedule in his rehab process.
Green, who is in the final year of his contract with the Bengals, said "something is happening," but left the negotiations to his agent. However, the situation underlines the importance of being perfectly healthy on his return.
He missed seven games with a toe injury last season.
