Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure In the 1989 Time Lapse Fantasy two would-be rock stars go out of their way to pass on their history class. With a little help from a futuristic phone booth, Bill (Alex Winter) and Ted (Keanu Reeves) fly through the story. They meet Socrates, Billy the Kid, Jeanne d'Arc ̵

1; or rather "So-Crates," "Mr. The Kid," and "Mrs."

From the first time she read the script by Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon read, Reeves and Winter knew that they had found something special.

"Teen Comedy Scripts, they never had any kind of deep language," recalls Winter.

"This seemed to be such an attack," says Reeves. "How do you not laugh at" Beeth-Oven "and" Noah's wife "" Not vile. That's funny! "

In Excellent Adventure the story is a great success, but in its original conception the adventure was decidedly not – not abominable. EW recently re-combined Reeves and Winter with Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon for the Untold Stories Issue, and the creative team recalled streets that were not recorded in the first film – and the wondrous sequel Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey 19659008] "The original impulse," explains Matheson, "was that they would be responsible for everything bad that ever happened in human history. They caused the civil war. They caused the First World War. They caused the Titanic to go down.

Solomon actually still has the original notes from her brainstorming sessions at the top of the first page is the original title of the film: Bill & Ted's Time Van .The original list of possible locations, settings and big name is long: Revolutionary France, Egypt, medieval England, pirates, Magna Carta, Arthur legend, Charlemagne, Columbus, Hitler, Russian Revolution, Richard Nixon …

"One of the most popular children in school have been for some reason Befriended with Hitler, "says Solomon.

" That tells you how we were ostracized by the beloved children, "jokes Matheson.

Excellent Adventure turned to a much more optimistic account of time travel and ended with the promise that Bill and Ted's band, the Wild Stallyns, would create music so powerful that it would turn the world into a utopia. Ex cellent Adventure ends with an exciting storytelling in an auditorium, a kind of arena rock teaching concert full of show moments for all important historical figures. "They all get their own spotlight," says Reeves. "They are in their element, do their thing and pass on their knowledge."

But the ending was different at first. Winter recalls, "We just bring the historical characters back to our classroom, and Keanu just sat on the desk watching them talk about who they were, then we'd go to the prom and that's the end When we shot it, we were somehow depressed. "

The end was converted back to its present form – which ushered in an unusual trend for the Bill & Ted franchise.

When it was time to work on a sequel, Matheson and Solomon bravely abandoned the possibility of another time travel adventure. Instead, Bogus Journey sends the title couple on a wild ride through life and death, complete with a comical-freaky journey to hell full of their greatest fears: A dreadful Easter Bunny doll, grandmother grandmother Preston (played by Winter ), and the military man Colonel Oats (Chelcie Ross.)

In the original conception, Matheson notes that these horrific entities had returned to climax. "In the third act, these fears came back and terrorized them," explains the author. "The Easter Bunny clutched the van and tried to get in." (In fact, at one point, the authors discussed the possibility of Bill and Ted returning from the heavens with biblical figures.) Moses wanted to share a bunch of cars and things like these, "says Matheson The idea was explored but quickly abandoned, it seemed

"It was a way to be, you know, worked in the blink of an eye," Winter reminisces about the end of Bogus Journey . "In a script get new designs when cutting scenes. And the scene that's gone just says "omit", right? Normally, when you reach the end of a movie, you get quite a few of them because you realize you've written too much stuff. But in this case, it was only: omit, omit, omit, omit, omit, omit, omit, omit, omit, omit.

According to Reeves, the actors had a title for the original ending: " Bill & Ted's exuberant adventure. "And after Solomon and Matheson, the long paraphrases on Bogus Journey eventually led to the creation of one of the most unusual characters in film history.

" It was super late, and we were super drunk "Solomon says," We deleted this whole sequence, but it started with & # 39; Interior-Police Station & # 39 ;. But I think I did not get everything out of the computer, so it was just called 'Station.' "

" It was like, three o'clock in the morning, "says Matheson." We're wiped out. We worked hard. We only say for an hour: Station. Station: 19659008 Station: Solomon. "We have vowed not to have ."

& # 39; & # 39; We will have a Martian named Station. "And by God we did it," laughs Matheson. That was unclear. "
