Treyarch has released a big update for Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 – and that sounds very promising.
Operation Absolute Zero will launch on PlayStation 4 next week (other platforms will get it later), and there will be a number of important changes in the game.
As described in the Treyarch blog, the update adds the first specialist after the launch of Black Ops 4, called Zero. She is a hacker who can be used in multiplayer and blackout mode, and is described as someone who can "disturb and distract" her enemies and introduce countermeasures into the game.
Zero is conveniently unlocked by completing Level 1
Operation Absolute Zero also adds new weapons to Black Ops 4 for the first time: The multiplayer receives three new weapons: the 3XB SMG Daemon, the SWAT RFT Assault Rifle, and the Secret Santa Melee Weapon.
There were concerns That Activision would put these new weapons behind the rebates and add a touch of pay-to-win to Black Ops 4. Instead, it's smuggling black market developer Treyarch did not say exactly what levels will unlock these new weapons, but the Players Can Negotiate Them Instead
Players can now try the new weapons in Blackjack's Gun Game, one of the featured multiplay games he playlists starting next week. And they will be in blackout by standard weapon waste.
Speaking of Blackout: Operation Absolute Zero changes Battle Royale considerably. On December 10, Blackout will receive a new armor repair system, audio enhancements, balance SDM and Spitfire weapons, and seasonal map changes.
Seasonal changes will be reflected in deciduous and softer winter lighting, Treyarch said as well as New Smoke Trailers to better indicate where all are descending. There are subtle environmental improvements for Nuketown Island, Hydro Dam, and Factory (patch notes for next week will detail them.)
On December 11, Hijacked will be added to blackout on PS4 as the card's new destination. As Treyarch teased, this luxury yacht is located in the northwest of the map on the waters and is inspired by the Treyarch multiplayer map of the same name. Blackout also gets a new vehicle: the ARAV. This armored two-person vehicle has a revolver-mounted machine gun, which is fun. Treyarch said custom games, gun camos, console surface updates, holiday card decorations, disposable snowballs, and much, much more will soon be out for blackout.
At the front of the zombies adding the daily jump makes the most sense. So far you could not go through the black market stages through zombies, much to the chagrin of the players. If you complete 15 rounds in a game of classic zombies, you will receive your daily black market bonus starting next week.
And finally there are welcome changes on the black market, which has received much criticism since its introduction.
The new contraband stream begins with 100 tiers of themes being built every 25 tiers, from the soul-destroying 200 tiers in the previous contraband stream. In addition, any reward for the first 100 animals can be viewed directly. Track your progress.
Treyarch has added weapon camos, reactive camos, reticles, joint warpaints, and new cosmetic weapon variants to the Master Market, which is certainly a good thing. There are new blackout characters (old-school Nikolai is unlockable in Tier 45), and reserves now begin in Tier 101. The reserves include cosmetic ingredients, personalization items, and a new masterpiece. If you have not completed the collection of reserve items from Operation First Strike, they will be added to reserves for Operation Absolute Zero.
All in all, this is a very positive update to Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. Of course, basic questions remain with microtransactions. The fact that you can pay real money to skip the black market stages will always cast a shadow over the pace of progress. And I suspect that the Fortnite Battle Pass special orders that force you to pay for unlocking signature weapons will continue to exist. However, there are 100 levels better to reach this season than 200 sounds, and hiring new weapons is a welcome surprise.
