The Academy Awards recently announced plans to introduce a "popular movie achievement" next year, which many saw as a better opportunity for blockbuster and more specifically, superhero films
Star Chadwick Boseman now wants his film to get a nomination in the best picture category instead of in popular movie
Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter podcast, the actor said: "We do not know what it is [the new prize] so I do not know if I'll be happy about it or not.
"What I can say is that there is no campaign [that we are mounting] for the popular movie; "If there's a campaign, it's the best picture, and that's all."
The 40-year-old actor further said that the introduction of the popular movie category should not discourage the Academy members from nominating a popular movie in the best image category
He said, "A good movie is a good movie, and obviously it does not matter how much money a movie makes to be a "good movie" [in the minds of Academy members] if [it did] the films nominated and won [which have tended in recent years to not be blockbusters] are not nominated; and if so Mind you, it does not matter on both sides. "
Boseman added," My only thing that counts is what counts Difficulty. "
" What we did was very difficult, we created a world, we created a culture … we had to create a religion, a spirituality, a politics, we had to create an accent, we had to from v different cultures to create clothing styles and hairstyles. It is very similar to a historical piece.
"So, for that matter, I dare to try every movie, compare it to the [level of] difficulty of this one, and the fact that so many people liked it – if you just say, it's [merely] popular, that's elitist. "
