BlackBerry, or at least TCL, seems still not connected to QWERTY phones. BlackBerry is overdue a 2018 smartphone and it looks like it's almost here. Separate sightings, an official at TENAA and a leaked photo at Weibo, give a pretty good view of the next BlackBerry, which is not really completely new. Code name "Athena", this new BlackBerry looks like the KEYone, so it should not be really surprising that it is called the BlackBerry KEY2 or KEY 2 if you really want to be precise
It seems that TCL is still following hardcore fans instead of trying to bring fresh blood. While useful for those who use their smartphones on smartphones, the design has a few compromises that may discourage occasional smartphones. That said, the KEYone was still not exactly a classic BlackBerry in design, so even the BB loyalists might have been turned off a bit.
The BlackBerry Athena apparently will not change much. It has pretty much the same design, though the buttons appear a bit flatter and look closer to the BlackBerry Passport buttons. Bottom right, however, there is a new key that seems to be a kind of link to an app grid.
What's new is the dual cameras on the back of the Athena / KEY2. Neither Blackberry in the Days nor TCL was very noticeable in the mobile photography department today so it will be pretty interesting to see what they can deliver here.
