For the first time, the aerospace company Blue Origin has detonated a brand new engine that the company has developed for its future Lunar Lander. During a test at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, the engine, called BE-7, fired for 35 seconds. It is a big step for the company to build the Lander Blue Moon and finally send it to the lunar surface.
The founder of Blue Origin, Jeff Bezos tweeted a video about the test last night ]. The record shows flames coming out horizontally from the engine, first bright green and then clear for the remainder of the test. The green flames are due to the liquid with which the BE-7 starts the ignition of the engine. As soon as this liquid burns, the flames become clear, as the engine is operated with liquid oxygen and hydrogen ̵
First hot fire of our Moon Landing Engine # BE7 yesterday at the Marshall Space Flight Center. The data looks good and the hardware is in perfect condition. The planned test duration was 35 seconds. Kudos to the entire @BlueOrigin team and a thank you to @NASA_Marshall for all the help! pic.twitter.com/cTjjrngumY

The news comes just over a month after Bezos announced that the company had the Blue Moon Lander had developed and this new engine for three years. The Blue Moon Lander will use a BE-7 engine to lower itself to the surface of the moon. Bezos claims that the lander is capable of transporting robotic rovers to the moon, or even a separate spaceship, with people who can lift and transport astronauts from the moon. And since BE-7 is powered by liquid oxygen and hydrogen, it could possibly be fueled by water from the lunar surface.
When Bezos revealed the BE-7 during his presentation, he made it clear that Blue Origin is very interested in helping the Blue Moon Lander with NASA's plans to bring people back to the surface of the Moon. And this opportunity can come very soon. NASA will release a final call for Lander designs this summer and will select one or two companies to develop these spacecraft before the end of the year. Considering how far Blue Origin seems to be, the company may be a very serious competitor.
