Do you remember the videos of Boston Dynamics robots from a few years ago? It was a big deal that robots like Atlas could run on (uneven!) Uneven ground. But Atlas keeps flipping through milestones, like in this new video where Atlas skips effortlessly over obstacles and jumps on pits like a Parkour legend. The robot rebellion is on the horizon, people. This is not an exercise.
It is no exaggeration to say that in just a few years, Atlas has become a subhuman superman. As late as January 201
Yes, Atlas makes mistakes again and again – like last year when an Atlas robot fell off the stage. But that's something even people do. When was the last time you left an obstacle course like Atlas?
And to say all of that to other Boston Dynamics robots like the SpotMini, which is agile enough to do the dishes, the handle, which skips huge platforms and spot, can open the doors and stay on their feet when they're up is pushed around.
When I went to the DARPA Robotics Challenge in the summer of 2015, one of the toughest challenges for the teams to get their robots to move autonomously over a rocky, uneven surface. But now probably the same teams would let their robots jump over the obstacles.
I think we all know where that leads. And it's not nice for humanity. Just come with me, Atlas. Bring us out of our misery.
