A three-year-old boy in China survived Monday's fall from a balcony on a sixth-floor condo thanks to a group of quick-thinking onlookers using a blanket to break his fall.
The incident occurred at 4 pm in a residential community in Chongqing in the southwest of the country.
"I looked up to see a little kid dangling up there and my first reaction was to find something to catch it," said Zhu Yanhui, a clerk in the property management department, CCTV said. "I thought about rushing there and catching it with my bare hands, but that would not have worked." UNREST
A video taken by viewers showed the toddler clinging to the edge of the balcony as spectators gathered under the building] Then the spectators formed a circle with a white blanket under the infant.
"I held up the blanket with others while looking at the child," Zhu Yanhui told CCTV. "I looked at the ceiling and wondered if we could catch it safely, my only thought was to protect it."

The toddler then falls from the balcony to the group waiting below and landing safely on the blanket.
"I was there for the moment helping to hold the blanket, and ten seconds later the boy fell." said CCTV. "It all happened so fast."
The three-year-old was transported to a regional hospital, but suffered no injuries, according to CCTV. The police said the boy stayed alone in the apartment while his grandmother went shopping.
