The Broncos headache at quarterback now beyond the disappointing game of starter Case Keenum. The future with his reinforcements team, Chad Kelly, could be in danger after the second-year player was arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of criminal transgression.
According to a sworn affidavit from the police, Kelly entered a house in the Denver suburb of Englewood, Colo., Late Monday evening, and sat on a couch next to a woman holding a small child. It was said that he mumbled incoherently, and she called for a male companion who hit Kelly with a "stick in the upper back when he left [the residence] [Kelly]."
The "stick" was later identified by the arresting officer as "an aluminum vacuum tube with plastic ends." Although the man said the doors to the house were locked, the policeman found no sign of forced entry. Security shots from the front of the house were used to create a description of the suspect.
Englewood officers found the 24-year-old Kelly, who corresponded to the description, nearby in a black SUV. He was parked in front of a theater where the Broncos & Von Miller hosted the team's annual Halloween party.
The police said Kelly was taken into custody "without incident." He is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
"We are disappointed that Chad Kelly was arrested early this morning," the Broncos said on Tuesday in a statement. "Our organization was in contact with Chad and we are in the process of gathering more information."
Broncos General Manager John Elway offered sharper words on his weekly show at Denver Sports Radio and said (via ABC 7) that he was "very, very disappointed with Chad." He said about the party, "If the team has a gathering, that's always a good thing," on the "comradeship," but he added, "One person put a dent in. We'll investigate." The charges are very, very serious. "
Kelly made some impressive stats at the school, and he had an NFL pedigree as the nephew of former Bill quarterback Jim Kelly, but he fell for the final draft of the 2017 draft, in part due to character issues , He was dismissed by Clemson's program of conduct, which was detrimental to the team, spent a year at a junior college and then, shortly after joining Ole Miss, was arrested for his role in an altercation at a Buffalo nightclub.
Kelly's announcement for a strong arm, above-average mobility, and a fearless dedication to the field at Ole Miss, but he was also involved in another off-field incident when he stormed a high school football field as a brawl He started his rookie season in Denver while recovering from knee and wrist injuries, but he played well enough to move the team to Paxton Lynch during the training camp this year to release the first round and install Kelly as a backup. With Keenum struggling to prevail during the Broncos' 3/4 start-up this season, fans have called for more calls for Kelly as a starter, but the final episode could lead to punishment by the NFL and possibly his release from Denver
Broncos beat reporter Troy Renck said on Twitter Tuesday that team officials are "angry and disappointed" with Kelly, and that the organization "expects to take action". He added that, at least, Kelly was probably disabled for Sunday's game with the Chiefs, which would put Kevin Hogan in the third row in the role of backup quarterback.
"We're about to learn all the facts and talk to Chad, so we'll find out exactly where we're going," Elway said on his radio broadcast.
