A Bronx man accused by US officials of joining the Taliban in Afghanistan and killing Americans was arrested Friday at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York.
Delowar Mohammed Hossain, 33, Is Accused of Attempting Provision According to the New York South District US Attorney's Office, it should be material support for acts of terrorism.
A criminal complaint alleges that he is a supporter of the Taliban and has held talks with the confidential informer Hossain, saying he wants to join the insurgent group and fight American forces.
The complaint states that Hossain has discussed his plans since September.
In an April conversation, Hossain allegedly said, "I want to fight," and "I want to kill a couple of Kufars before I die." Using an expression that, according to authorities, refers to non-Muslims.
An e-mail to a lawyer allegedly representing Hossain was not returned immediately on Friday night. [1
"Hossain purportedly wanted to kill Americans and wanted to target in particular members of our armed forces serving our nation abroad," US attorney for Southern District of New York said, Geoffrey S. Berman said in a statement.
Hossain faces imprisonment of up to 15 years.
