Brown University's Brain Research Institute received a $ 100 million donation to support research into the human brain and seek remedies for its disorders and diseases, university officials said.
The gift comes from alumnus Robert J. Carney, a Houston entrepreneur and his wife Nancy, who announced the University. It is one of the biggest gifts in the history of the school.
The institute will use the resources to "accelerate the hiring of senior lecturers and postdocs in brain science areas, provide seed capital for new research projects, and finance important new equipment and infrastructure in the technology-intensive areas of exploration," he said Brown
Research focuses on spinal injuries and paralysis, psychiatric disorders and computational neuroscience.
