Cadillac Detroit Auto Show with electric SUV preview

On the eve of the Detroit Auto Show of 2019 Cadillac surprised the media with a first look at an upcoming electric crossover SUV, perhaps the first of many electric vehicles that arrived for the brand. [19659002] After hearing recently that the Cadillac luxury brand would become the leading electric vehicle brand of 1945 [19009004] by General Motors, we all expected an EV to be introduced soon, but not so soon. That is, we have only seen renderings of the electric crossover with few details on specifications. GM vows to reposition Cadillac as an EV brand

The name of the electric vehicle and the specific details regarding the powertrain and range are displayed closer to an unspecified start window. What we know so far is that it will be based on GM's upcoming GM platform "BEV3". The electric caddy crossover will be the first platform in a series of vehicles using the platform designed for front, rear or four-wheel drive configurations. It is expected that BEV3 will underpin a wide range of GM vehicles worldwide in the next few years.

The remainder of the Cadillac brand is also ramping up for the overhaul of the line-ups, starting with the XT6 crossover which also debuted in advance of the Detroit show this week. Cadillac also anticipates a debut of about half a dozen new models ̵

1; about every six months – until 2021, including the next generation Escalade and an upcoming performance sedan. How many are plug-in vehicles? We just have to wait.

"Cadillac's EV will hit the heart of the crossover market and meet the needs of customers around the world," said Steve Carlisle, president of Cadillac. "It represents the pinnacle of luxury and innovation, positioning Cadillac as the culmination of mobility."

Our last encounter with Caddy – when we discussed the 2019 XT4 – impressed with the brand's equipment, style and design, but disappointed with its powertrain and performance. Maybe a hit with electric torque and efficiency is exactly what the brand needs to stay competitive.
