The NPD group has announced that Call of Duty 2018 was the best-selling console game franchise in the US. For the tenth year in a row, the series was awarded the title. For the celebration, Activision posted a blog post highlighting the best of Call of Duty moments of the last decade and thanked the fans for playing.
"Over the last 10 years, we have earned the honor of bringing the community together to showcase some truly incredible moments," wrote Activision. "Whether it's stunning abilities, frenetic clips, or just a few fun experiences, we're honored to serve the most passionate community." Activision's # 10-year series began in 2009 with Modern Warfare 2, before switching to Black Ops in 2010 and Modern Warfare 2 in 2011. The settings for each subsequent game would thereafter take place in the near-to-distant future, before it comes to battles that take place in the Unending War of 2016 in space. The World War II of 2017 brought the series back to the roots of World War I, before Black Ops 4 pushed the series into the near future again. Black Ops 4 is the first Call of Duty game to abandon a traditional single player campaign. Instead, the game included Blackout, a Battle Royale mode that proved very popular.
Also this year, these games were not necessarily the best-selling games in the US – though some of them could have been Call of Duty has been the top-selling franchise system for consoles in the US for the past 10 years.
If the established rotation for which developers are scheduled for each Call of Duty in 2019 persists, then Infinity Ward is next. Although not confirmed as a Call of Duty teaser, a tweet from Infinity Ward's senior communications manager Ashton Williams suggests the next game may be Modern Warfare 4. For 2019's Call of Duty, however, no specific details have yet been announced.  The Red Dead Redemption 2 was also the # 1 selling game of the year 2018 in the US, followed by Call of Duty: Black Ops IV, NBA 2K19, Madden NFL 19, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Marvel & # 39 ; s Spider-Man, Far Cry 5, God of War, Monster Hunter: World and Assassin's Creed: Odyssey. However, this data does not include the sale of digital PCs.
