China orders fishing boats to behave during the G-20 summit

Beijing made a statement to Chinese fishing boats operating overseas, warning them to avoid illegal activities during the G-20 summit in Argentina this weekend.

China's maritime image has been challenged in recent years. The second largest economy in the world has engaged in aggressive behavior on international waterways such as the South China Sea, while several Chinese ships have been involved in illegal fishing overseas.

Last year was a Chinese ship in the Galapagos National Park ̵

1; a marine protected area where it is located. Industrial fishing is prohibited – was found with more than 6,000 sharks, which was considered a major blow to international marine conservation.

The country is also often accused of overfishing in its territorial waters. According to Greenpeace East Asia, China has exceeded its annual fishing fee every year since 1994.
