SCIENTISTS have learned to convert cheap copper into "gold" in China – and this could have a significant impact on precious metal prices.
The Chinese research team has succeeded in almost converting cheap copper metal into a new material identical in composition to gold using hot electronically charged argon gas nozzles.
The fast-moving ionized particles hurled copper atoms from a target sheet.
As the atoms cooled and condensed, a thin layer of "sand" began to form on the surface of a pool.
The scientists found that each grain of sand was only a few nanometers in diameter – about 1/1000 the size of a bacterium.
After this sandy material had been introduced into a reaction chamber, it was used to turn coal into alcohol.
during the process. The copper nanoparticles that made up the sandy substance behaved just like a precious metal, and scientists call the process a success.
"The copper nanoparticles achieved a catalytic performance very similar to that of gold or silver," the scientists behind the project said in a statement.
"The results … proved that metal copper can transform from" chicken "to" phoenix. "
The amazing discovery was made by a team of scientists from the Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Sciences in Liaoning when they were trying to find a "gold substitute."
