WASHINGTON. After spending the last two months as one of the most effective aids to baseball, Chris Martin will now seize the opportunity to solidify the Bulls of the Braves.

Atlanta took a step toward one of its most urgent needs on Tuesday night when it acquired Martin from the Rangers in exchange for Kolby Allard ].

Martin posted an ERA of 3.08 over 38 appearances this year. The 33-year-old Reliever has earned an ERA of 1

.45 and limited opponents to a base percentage of .228, while he has recorded 24 strikeouts since May 24, with just one run over 18 2/3 innings (19 appearances).

Braves may try to add at least one more helper before Wednesday, 4pm ET trade date. They also consider the option to add a launch pitcher and a right-handed outfielder.

Allard was one of the best prospects of the game after the Braves had selected him with the 14th overall victory in the 2015 MLB Draft. In the last two seasons, however, the stock of the young left-hander has fallen. This year, he produced a 4.17 ERA in 20 starts for Triple-A Gwinnett.

Mark Bowman has been covering the Braves for MLB.com since 2001.
