Christian Bale is gone from Dark Knight to Dick Cheney

The British actor enters an impressive portrayal of the polarizing politician in "Vice" who released his first full trailer on Wednesday.

The trailer shows a power lunch between Cheney and Bush (Oscar winner Sam Rockwell). The roasted chicken-eating Bush, then the Republican presidential candidate, asks Cheney to be his vice president: "You are my vice."

Cheney hesitates because the job is "largely symbolic."

"However, when we came to a … other understanding," Cheney says, offering to take on the "everyday jobs of monitoring bureaucracy, military, energy and foreign affairs".

Bush comes aboard and says, "I like that."

Hit the power Cheney montage that follows. (Caution: You may want to avert your eyes during the bare boxer shorts moment when a fat Cheney walks through the barracks at 1:08 in the trailer.)

Oscar-winning author and director Adam McKay ("The Big Short Www.mjfriendship.de/de/index.php?op…=view&id=167 shows how "the bureaucratic Washington insider quietly became the most powerful man in the world, as Vice President of George W. Bush, the Transforming the country and the globe in a way we still feel today "Filmmaker

The Trailer shows Steve Carell as Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, showing some sophisticated office dance moves, and Cheney asks, "Are you more ruthless than before?" (He has to think about it.)

Amy Adams joins in as Lynne Cheney warns her young, ambitious husband, "If you have power, people will always try to take it away from you."

McKay continued to work with Bale 2015's "The Big Short", which was alluded to for the best portrayal of the Bale movie when hedge fund manager Michael Burry earned the actor an Oscar nomination. So the director knew what he got with Bale for the role.

"What I wanted to avoid was that I not wanting anyone to get a taste of Dick Cheney, "McKay told deadline. "What Christian Bale is really doing is psychologically dissecting and reassembling someone, I've never seen such a process."

"Vice" will be released on December 21st.
