The Cleveland Browns have spent years in perpetual reset mode. And now, even in a season in which the appearance of rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield gave a glimmer of hope, they hit this reset button again and decided Monday Fire Head Coach Hue Jackson.
The team also supplanted Todd Haley as offensive coordinator and defensive chief Gregg Williams as interim coach.
Jackson was in his third season as the coach of Browns and had a record of 3-36-1. The Browns have a record of 2-5-1 this season and are in a losing series of three games.
"We understand how critical this period is in the development of our football team individually and collectively," owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam said in a written statement, "and believed it was in the best interests of the organization to pull the train in this Time to maximize our opportunities for the rest of the season. "
Haslam decided against dismissing Jackson Englisch: www.mjfriendship.de/en/index.php?op…39&Itemid=32. Www.mjfriendship.de/de/index.php?op…39&Itemid=32 They have entrusted the reorganization of the team to a new general manager, John Dorsey has decided to seize the top overall selection last season of the NFL Draft on Mayfield, the winner of the Heisman Trophy from Oklahoma.
This looks like a good choice as Mayfield during his rookie season resembled a star who suffered a head injury during a game against the New York Jets in which Taylor's suffered a head injury and led the Browns to their first win since the season 2016. He also led a victory over the Baltimore Ravens, who equalized Brown's record at 2-2-1, bringing thoughts of playoff struggles into the minds of some particularly optimistic observers.
But the Browns have declined to be, well, the Browns in the weeks since then. They have suffered losses at the Los Angeles Chargers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Pittsburgh Steelers. Jackson talked about dealing more with the offense, which essentially brought him into conflict with Haley and established a possible choice between the two men.
Instead of voting, the Browns got rid of both.
According to the person close to the situation, the Haslam weighed the decision in consultation with Dorsey and decided that while a change of season coaching was far from ideal, they did not want things to remain as between Jackson and Haley, Mayfield development could endanger. So the Browns sit back on the coaching change carousel.
Running Backs coach Freddie Kitchens has been promoted to offensive coordinator. So he will actually become the temporary steward of Mayfield's progress. It would not be surprising if the Browns hired an offensive head coach in the coming offseason, hoping that their next coach for Mayfield could do what Sean McVay did for quarterback Jared Goff in Los Angeles. The same thing happened to the Chicago Bears last season when they signed Matt Nagy as coaches to mate with young quarterback Mitchell Trubisky.
Williams is responsible for the moment. He is the former head coach of the Buffalo Bills, and he continues his career as coach after missing out on the 2012 NFL season for his role in the Bountygate scandal with the New Orleans Saints.
Cleveland continues It's all about what's best for Mayfield. He is at the heart of Brown's recent recovery efforts, and the dismissal of Jackson makes it clear that all decisions are taken with his best interests in mind.
Jackson's exit comes a day after Cleveland's basketball team fired coach Tyrann Lue with The Cavaliers sit at 0-6 this season.
