INDIANAPOLIS – Colts quarterback Andrew Luck retires from the NFL, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

According to Schefter, Luck informed the Colts he is mentally exhausted and plans to retire.

The Colts have not yet offered an update, and requests for comments from IndyStar have gone unanswered.

Luck was in the preseason game against the Chicago Bears on the field in foreplay and talking to Jack Doyle on Saturday night.

Luck, the 29-year-old who was the NFL's comeback player last season, struggled with an injury to his left leg, an injury that was originally described as a calf strain and a problem with high ankles. There was no indication that Luck is considering retirement.
