The Columbus Partnership and the potential new Columbus Crew SC owner group, led by Pete Edwards, Jr., Dee and Jimmy Haslam, have announced plans for a new stadium in the city center, as announced on Thursday as part of a 33-acre site with a riverside park, 885 new homes and more proposed.
"This is the next step in what some may have considered an impossible dream," said Alex Fischer, President and CEO of the Columbus Partnership said in a press release. "Today's announcement demonstrates the commitment of our community in partnership with the Haslam and Edwards families for MLS football in Columbus. The creativity behind this unique public-private partnership brings together a vision for a new stadium with a broader community development plan. Columbus will become the national standard vehicle for what defines collaborative relationships between professional sports teams and their communities.

According to Columbus Business First the ownership group will invest more than $ 645 million in the US project.
"We remain very encouraged because the Haslam and Edwards families and the Columbus Partnership in Columbus have made great progress," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "To ensure the long-term success of Crew SC and to keep the club in Columbus, a critical part of our discussions was the planning of a new stadium and increased support from fans and businesses. We hope to complete these essential elements soon. We recommend Mayor Ginther, Alex Fischer, the city, the county and all those involved in the process that we believe will bring great benefits to the crew fans and the Columbus community for generations to come.
At 6 pm, a public hearing on this proposal will take place ET on Thursday in Council Chambers.
"We are delighted with the tremendous progress that has been made in this short time to keep the crew in Columbus while creating a long-term plan that will be of great benefit to the community," said Haslems and Edwards said in a joint statement, "The vision for a community sports park is particularly exciting as the opportunity to engage Columbus youth more with football and other sports is so valuable."
