Contigo Kids Cleanable Water Bottles were recalled for suffocation

Contigo, a Chicago-based company, received 149 complaints, including 18 cases in which the spout was discovered in a child's mouth. By Tuesday, no injuries had occurred.

Recall bottles should be taken immediately by children.

The bottles, which cost between $ 9 and $ 24, were sold online in Costco, Walmart, Target and other in-store stores across the country and between April 2018 and June 2019.

A total of approximately 5.7 million bottles of which about 157,000 were sold in Canada and about 28,000 in Mexico. They were sold individually as well as in packs of two and three.

They are available in three sizes (1

3 ounces, 14 ounces and 20 ounces) and four colors (solid, graphic, stainless steel and solid stainless steel). The word "Contigo" is printed on the edge and near the bottom at the front of the bottle.

Contigo provides a free replacement cover for defective products that have a black base and a black cover over the clear silicone spout.

According to the corporate website, which provides an online form so consumers can order a free replacement lid, this recall only includes models with a black spout base and spout cover.

A spokeswoman stressed that the company had voluntarily recalled the lids.

"The incidence of incidents is very low among consumers who report silicone sewer replacement and no injuries were reported," said the spokeswoman. "Children's safety is of the utmost importance to Contigo, and we have worked very hard to fix it and find a solution."

The CPSC's mission is to protect the public from the risks of injury or death caused by the use of thousands of consumers.
