Xbox Live is a lot of things, but certainly not perfect, and with this imperfection it comes to downtime. At the moment, some users are reporting problems with logging in to the service. This causes problems for users trying to access some of their Game Pass games and other online content.
Microsoft has confirmed the issues and sent a message to the development team to try and solve the problem, although no estimated time has been set when players can go online again. Currently, the Xbox Live Support website indicates that core services are not available, although other aspects of the service are still online, such as: As the purchase of content and access to social features.
However, our own tests were not lucky enough to access such features. It is possible that Core Services issues have affected access to features on consoles only, as games can still be purchased directly through the Microsoft Web site without any problem. We hope the service will be off-line for only a short time, unlike the time when hackers shut down Xbox Live and PSN.
We are still investigating the error code 0x87DD0006 when we try to sign in to our services across devices. Thank you for your patience. We will update here and on our status page again if we have more information. https://t.co/99xfLMWcZW[19659005<-Xbox-Support(@XboxSupport) June 19, 2019
It is not uncommon for online services to fail, regardless of whether they are a problem with Xbox or PlayStation. Over time, problems will likely be less common as the Internet infrastructure improves. There will almost always be scheduled outages for updates, but hopefully Microsoft and Sony will solve much of the trouble with their respective services when Project Scarlett and the PS5 come out. While this relatively short period is probably unrealistic, one can always hope.
These failures raise the question of whether gambling is ready for a game or not a fully digital future. If Google Stadia goes down, players will not be able to play anymore given the streaming nature of the platform. It's a slightly worrisome term that the company is likely to address before launching Google Stadia this November.
It's likely to be a short while before Xbox Live is up and running again, though the downside is frustrating for players hoping for a game in the afternoon. This page will be updated when the service is back online.
