Costco's first China store closes on the opening day

The popular wholesale company Costco today held the much-discussed opening of its first site in China – and promptly closed due to the tide of interest. Financial Times reporter Tom Hancock:

Costco members were recruited 11:29 am a SMS local time, note to potential buyers to avoid peak hours in the afternoon. At 14:13, they closed the system with a subsequent SMS asking customers not to come.

Dear member, hello! Due to the crowded store traffic, the store opening closed on the afternoon of 27th August to give you a better shopping experience.

We here at RADII are already proud card-leading members of Costco Shanghai, making it there for a slice and an annual supply of wasabi peas … as soon as the crowd wears off. Be curious about our report on site!
