The popular wholesale company Costco today held the much-discussed opening of its first site in China – and promptly closed due to the tide of interest. Financial Times reporter Tom Hancock:

Costco members were recruited 11:29 am a SMS local time, note to potential buyers to avoid peak hours in the afternoon. At 14:13, they closed the system with a subsequent SMS asking customers not to come.
