A fashion designer based in the UK and her boyfriend were found guilty of murdering her 21-year-old French nurse after firefighters discovered her burned remains in her garden in southwest London last September
Sabrina Kouider , 35, and Ouissem Medouni, 40, starved and tortured Sophie Lionnet for weeks before her death in 2017 and sometimes took her on a mobile phone, investigators said. Then they burned their emaciated body on a campfire while they barbecued chickens nearby to mask the smell. The brutality of the case has shaken Britain and played in national headlines.
Walton, who lives in Los Angeles and traveled to the UK to demonstrate in the trial, said in a statement that he had never "met Sophie in my life."
During the trial, the couple, who are both French, indicted each other, each saying the other had killed Lionnet while they slept.
"We will never know the full extent of the horrors that Sophie suffered as not all" interrogations "were recorded, said Domencia Catino, detective in the Murder and Major Crime Division of the London Metropolitan Police Force." Even in death continued torture, ill-treatment and humiliation by placing their partially clothed body in a suitcase regardless of the appearance of a funeral before making the callous decision to burn them to conceal their murderous act. "
The couple is convicted on June 26.
