There is an unwritten rule of baseball that I wholeheartedly support – only one:
When a foul ball lands in a drink, the drink holder is obliged to chug the drink before removing the baseball.
It's a timeless tradition that should be honored far more often than throwing baseball at people who are too good at baseball. During the Cubs Mets game on Monday, a Cubs fan kept this tradition alive.
When Anthony Rizzo struck a foul ball in the stands behind the home plate, the Wrigley fans cheered as a fan caught baseball in his beer cup. This drew Rizzo to the stands, where he watched the Cubs fan chug the beer with the baseball remaining in the cup.
Has another Wrigley Field moment happened this season? Not sure, but Rizzo, who is following this moment with an RBI double, has probably overdone it.
