Dallas Cowboys: Cowboys Considerations: Adding Earl Thomas would also enhance special teams; how Dallas Amari Cooper could use otherwise

Jean-Jacques Taylor, cowboys insider for NBC 5 at Dallas-Fort Worth (KXAS-TV) and moderator of the JaM session 9 afternoons until 1am. Weekdays at 103.3 KESN-FM, questions answered recently during a live chat. Here are some highlights:

Q: Who wants the cowboys to add this offseason and why?

JJT: Earl Thomas is the player the cowboys could add to costs nothing but cash. He has always been a playmaker, and at age 30 he came off a broken leg and tended to make a team-friendly deal.

Last year, he wanted about $ 13 million a year; He might be willing to take now $ 11.5 million or $ 1

2 million. I would offer him a short-term deal – even if it was more money – instead of a long-term deal and see what he had left. If he started and Jeff Heath was a backup, this would greatly improve the cowboys in defense and special teams where Heath would be great for the cowboys

JJT: The key is to get the best player at this position. They need good players and it does not matter what position they play. Add a TE that can run and block, and Dak Prescott would love it. Add a sense of security, like Earl Thomas, who can play games and make sales, and Prescott will be thrilled, too. Apart from that, 2019 will be his first full season in Dallas for Amari Cooper?

JJT: The Cowboys are likely to try to use it a bit more in the next season, where they can get a free publication. You could also open his route tree and give him the opportunity to do more types of routes. He will probably get more balls in his direction next season. Cooper is a big part of the offense and they will find ways to get him to the ball.
