Dallas Cowboys: Mike Doocy of Fox 4 breaks off the annual interview with Jerry Jones after being told that the questions of the national anthem are not allowed

Mike Doozy of Fox 4 canceled his annual interview with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on Sunday evening after being told that he could not ask questions about the controversy over the national anthem.

Doocy spoke about the situation in his broadcast. He said that at the last minute, Jones and his public relations staff told him that he could not ask questions about the national anthem. Doozy also said that the NFL does not want Jones to talk about the anthem.

Here is a transcript of Doocy's comments along with the video of his broadcast. The video also includes clips by Doocy and Jones that have a conversation without audio.

"This was the part of the show Cowboys owner Jerry Jones was supposed to come in. We had an interview tonight at 9:30 am This is my 25th Cowboys training camp that I've treated and had Jerry as our guest every Sunday at the camp through the years, I've always looked forward to it, I've always appreciated that he is gracious enough to join us and be ready to ask any question that comes. The fact that we were told that at the last minute and in that way conditions were put on the interview, I just did not feel comfortable going on.

"I do not want to make it any bigger than it is I appreciate Jerry's time over the years He's always been incredibly accessible and I've always tried it I was fair to the point where I was criticized for being too fair, I was fair to the point where I was criticized for not being hard enough at times not so much with a ton of things we can talk to Jerry tonight the national anthem, we've gotten into a lot of trouble with his football team, of course.

"In a sense, I'm & # 39; I break my own policy. I've always felt better, even with the conditions for an interview, to talk to the newscaster and get information that's of value to our viewers and viewers. If I have disappointed you in this regard, I apologize. I just could not accept how it happened tonight in this particular case. We hope we have the chance to talk to Jerry in the future. I'm not sure how that will work out at this point, but tonight there will not be an interview.

"I'm not sure I did the right thing this evening. In fairness to Jerry, his attitude now is that the NFL does not want him talking about the anthem as well. It would have been nice to know that a minute before the interview would begin. I've always enjoyed having the opportunity to talk to Jerry Jones, especially here in this camp. I've always appreciated that he was ready to talk to us about just about anything, and I'm sorry that's how it turned out tonight.
