Dell Inspiron Chromebook 14 2-in-1 is among 600 million Chrome OS users

Dell

Dell selected the IFA 2018 to release updates for its lowest-priced Inspiron line of laptops, its new 14-inch Chromebook, and a bright and sleek new display.

Despite Dell's history of 11.6-inch Chromebooks and two-in-one Chromebooks for markets like education, this is the first of its "premium" Chromebooks ̵

1; a growing class of Google Chrome OS-based laptops that have fewer Rough and ready and sophisticated and high quality are like the HP Chromebook x2 Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 and the grandaddy of expensive Chromebooks, the Google Pixelbook .

It's not as sleek and shiny as competing premium Chromebooks, but the aluminum Inspiron 14 Two-in-One Convertible includes a 14-inch 1,920 x 1,080-pixel screen with narrow Bezel and solid, slightly stoneless Design from the Inspiron line. The Wacom EMR pen is located on the bottom of the body and is accessible there in tablet mode.

The Chromebook and the selected Inspiron models are available in a new color, Urban Gray, which I really like as a low-key alternative to black or silver.

Inspiron Chromebook 14 Specifications

  • Intel Core i3-8130U CPU
  • Up to 128 GB of memory
  • 4 GB of memory
  • Connectors: 2x USB-C, 1x USB Type-A, microSD card slot, Headphone / Microphone Jack
  • 802.11ac (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz) Wi-Fi Fi

The Inspiron 5000 and 7000 two-in-one lines have a refreshed design as well as updates for Intel's eighth generation Core i processors. Perhaps most notably, Dell shrank the webcam to fit it in its sleek upper bezel, leaving no up-nose shots.

If speed is more important to you than positioning the webcam, the 5000 Series now offers you the option of discrete graphics: an Nvidia MX130 GPU that delivers higher speed.

The final highlight of Dell's announcements is the company's first DisplayHDR 600 certified monitor, which can reach 600 nits (typically 250 to 300 nits) brightness and can cover 90 percent of the DCI P3 gamut. This is generally brighter and gives better color rendition in saturated greens and cyan than in a typical monitor. But the S2719DC puts it in an ultra-thin, sleek silver case and adds a USB-C / alt display port to power your laptop while you use it.
