The Hollywood Reporter caught up with the Oscar winner at the premiere of the follow-up to his 2014 action hit on Tuesday in Hollywood.
Denzel Washington plays in The Equalizer 2 perhaps again Vigilante Robert McCall, but does not call the movie a sequel.
"Do you know everyone uses this word episode," said the American Oscar winner The Hollywood Reporter at the film premiere last night at the TCL Chinese Theater in Hollywood
Instead of calling it Continuing to look at it, Washington said, "It's a never ending story and it's so open we're here."
In the action-packed drama, McCall works as a Lyft rider (more on that in a second) whose life is uprooted, when his longtime colleague (Melissa Leo) is killed in a political investigation
Washington breaks many bones, slits his throat and more, to avenge his colleague's appalling murder.
"He's great at it," director Antoine Fuqua of Washington's agency. "He's boxing every day, he could still move around and do his thing."
The writer Richard Wenk admitted that it was sometimes nervous to see Washington on set, especially during a scene that took place in a hurricane , "It was quite exhausting to film it," he said THR . "But he loves it."
Moonlight Star Ashton Sanders joins The Equalizer Franchise as a young man Washington tries to save from gang life.
"He's on his way," Fuqua gushed over Sanders. "I saw him in Moonlight and he was great, Denzel reminded me of him after meeting on the red carpet of the SAG Awards, Ashton was excited to meet Denzel and said, & # 39; I'm going to work with Denzel Washington someday & Denzel said, 'Yup, I'll see you on set. ""
Washington meant what he said. "I think Ashton got a role for Roman Israel, Esq. but he was injured so he could not be there," Fuqua said. "Well, when that part came, Denzel said you should check it."
Sanders recalled his first day on the set. "I'm a bit nervous, man, but I was ready to work," he said. "Obviously he's a master of what he does, it's every actor's dream to work with Denzel, so it's nerve wracking, but after a while you shake it off because you're starting to do what you're supposed to do
"Denzel made me feel," Sanders continued, "Our friendship outside the camera is an extension of what you see on screen. He's kind of a mentor to me in the movie.
And it sounds like the cast and crew already have plans for a third equalizer .When Washington said if they're shooting another movie, "leave it to the people," Wenk said, "I have [the third film] Everything in my head. It starts right at the end of this movie. "
Producer Steve Tisch said:" What the people of Denzel want and what they want to get from a equalizer sequel, they will get with the sequel. I am thrilled that there is a Equalizer 3 .
Now to Lyft's branding for the movie: Premiere visitors were offered a discount code to take the ride-on service to and from the show night, yet this discount was not extended to the stars of the movie after the premiere.
Not That Denzel wanted to save some money with the ride-in app. "I never took Lyft," he said, "I have my own car. I drive myself. I do not drink, so I do not need to drive home.
Sanders said, "I take Uber every day, not Lyft. Uber is currently my main source of transportation.
