Today, intrepid Destiny players discovered a hidden mission that appeared during an ordinary patrol event. After a few hours of widespread experimentation and failure, a group completed the challenge and unlocked a powerful weapon known to anyone who played the first Destiny .
This afternoon everything started at Redditor blurryferret asked a question to the Destiny subreddit, who asked for a strange event during a public event on the moon of Io, one of [PatrolZonesofDestiny2 Has. As it turned out, they had discovered something no one else had found: a real hidden search. Countless players flocked to Io immediately to find out what was going on.
To start the challenge, you have to go to the Lost Oasis region of Io and wait for the public event of the Taken Invasion, which unfortunately is not the case. Once it starts, a Possessed Mini Boss named Urzok, Aspect of Hatred (actually it's URZOK, ASPECT of Hatred in All-Caps) will appear in a cave above the battlefield. Kill him and a portal will reopen in the main patrol area.
From there you will retreat to a new area and a quest called "The Whisper" will begin with a 20-minute countdown timer. Of course, from that point on the timer means that you have 20 minutes to finish the quest before you are thrown out and have to start all over again.
It's about coming through multiple rooms full of gnarled platforms – I & # 39; I'm talking about tiny faces, hardcore balancing act stuff, before being thrown into a closed space with a ton high-profile obsessive. Clear several of these enemies' spaces – no small feat, considering how hard they hit and how little cover is available – and get through a final multi-boss fight, and you'll end up with an exotic sniper rifle called Whisper of the Worm rewards. And if you think that sounds all very much like the timed take-kill challenge that unlocked the Black Spindle sniper rifle in the first Destiny you're right. As it turns out, Whisper of the Worm is basically Black Spindle 2.0, with the same advantages and a thornier look. It's a big, mean-looking sniper rifle that hits super hard, and most importantly, the exotic "White Nail" bonus means the magazine will be reloaded if you land critical hits with all three rounds. That makes it especially good for the destruction of bosses with big critical points.
I spent the last hour watching Houndish stream the challenge on YouTube, which was a lot of fun. In the end, a streamer named Gelatosquid first hit the challenge (or at least, first I know about it), and was first to show the gun. (Screenshot below, look at all the benefits here.)
It's been a while since Destiny players uncovered a secret like this, and it's been a lot of fun watching everyone in real time. If you like it, be sure to check out the "Secret Hunters of Destiny " podcast special Jason Schreier and I put together a compilation some time ago that captured many of the best secrets of the first game , This episode ended with a lawsuit that Destiny 2 at the time had no secrets like those in the first game. This is definitely not the case anymore.
I'm not sure when I'll have time to get this, but with the fact that the Black Spindle Challenge was one of my favorite things in the first game, it feels like I'll have to do it someday , If you're on the road to get it yourself, good luck.
Update 19:55: A lot of people have mastered the challenge and a wider variety of videos are coming online if you do that. I want to see the whole thing. Here is one of YouTuber Modern Tryhard:
