Destiny 2 Warmind DLC 2 Reveal: release date, exotics, more news

After a longer than expected wait, the first details about the second DLC extension of Destiny 2, Warmind, were announced. Bungie shared new information during a live stream that explored the new Landing Zone and the area on Mars where the DLC is set, the Escalation Protocol event, and other changes. There are also new exotic weapons and armor.

Warmind is on Mars, but in another area we've never been to. The Hellas Basin shows the planet's polar ice caps and is the birthplace of Warmind Rasputin, who is awake and causing problems throughout the solar system – as the space junk shows, falling from the sky. The Clovis Bray Corporation plays a key role in the story, and you'll meet Ana Bray, a Guardian who appears in the Prologue Cinema and acts as a salesman and main contact in Mars's new environment. One of the main focuses of the stream was the Escalation Protocol, a new type of public event that can not be activated until after you have ended the campaign (although you are free to join another person). This event is not on schedule and can be started at any time. It involves the encounter with seven waves of swarm enemies, each with different bosses. Reward Chest will appear after the third and fifth wave, but the real rewards will come after wave 7 is completed. This wave consists of a new boss with unique mechanics. There are a total of five bosses that can emerge during this phase, and the game turns every week between a

Bungie said the Escalation Protocol is intended as a playoff activity (hence the Campaign Completion requirement) that addresses players' demands for something that is truly challenging and repeatable. There are unique weapon rewards (which will vary depending on which boss you face) and new armor you can get. You can also use special weapons throughout the event, including the returning Hive sword from the original Destiny campaign. There is also something called The Valkyrie, a new type of spear that is used as both a melee and a ranged weapon and can only be used for a limited time.

Crucible

On the pot side, Bungie has the two new types of player rankings. Valor is a progression system that is increased at the conclusion of games and has no loss penalties. Fame is only available in the competing playlist and is related to your winnings and losses; You win rank when you win and you lose progress when you are short. There is also a "grazing" aspect that speeds up your gains (or losses) as you win or lose consecutive matches.

Crucible rewards are handled differently as well. Once Season 3 begins with the release of Update 1.2.0, you can go to Shaxx for a free rewards package. Through him you can see all the available rewards and how to earn them. Some earn by attaining certain ranks while others must meet certain goals in Crucible. There is also a prestige-style mechanic where you can reset your valor rank if you hit the maximum rewards level. The number of repetitions is unlimited and the number of resets is tracked by a corresponding emblem.

Bungie has also watched private matches that work exactly as you expect, as well as some exotic weapon changes. The overall goal is to make these weapons more useful and clear, without changing what makes them unique. Not shown but mentioned is that there is a new Raid Lair – the last for Leviathan – called Spire of Stars.

After Warmind will be released on May 8 (the release of the first DLC, Curse of Osiris, in December (you can see his new exotics below). This is the same date Season 3 starts. It will include a free update that will allow you to increase Vault space, exotic weapons, masterworks, and more. Season 3 also represents a notable change for Crucible cards, as all levels will be available to all players after start by matchmaking.

Later this summer, Season 3 also features bounties, a seasonal event, improvements to faction rally events and changes to the exotic armor sandbox. Season 4 is set to kick off in September and includes weapon exchanges, equipment collections and more.
