Ryan Reynolds has given new insights into the voice he originally wanted for Pikachu in the new Pokemon film Detective Pikachu.
He told Collider that he was thinking of making Pikachu sound like a "hardened" Brooklyn detective making him sound as if people were recognizing the voice of a detective. But the movie producers said to him, "Just do Ryan Reynolds," and that was that.
We saw Detective Pikachu, and Reynolds definitely pinned it to his vocal performances as Pikachu. He is charismatic, stupid and emotional where it fits, and the end result is that Reynold's performance is one of the strongest elements of the film.
Also in the interview, Reynolds talked about a possible sequel to Detective Pikachu. He said, "The sequel does not even have to include a detective pikachu, the Pokemon Universe is quite massive, they could do a lot of things, I'd like to do it again, I had so much fun." 1
"Detective Pikachu should be nice to all Pokemon fans, young and old," wrote Michael Rougeau. "It provides funny answers to the fantasy of what life would look like if Pokémon were real, bringing new wrinkles to the world of Pokemon, though not all of them work completely, yet as the first official live-action journey into the world From Pokémon, Detective Pikachu presents characters that I want to see again, and an attitude I'd like to return to.
