Popeyes Louisiana The kitchen in Detroit is closed on Tuesday after a video showing unsanitary conditions in the restaurant became viral on Facebook.
The Detroit Health Department's Food Safety Team closed restaurant 14180 Gratiot Ave. at 14 o'clock due to several health risks. 19659006] "The site is temporarily closed and the management of Popeye is cooperating with the Ministry of Health and for all cleaning protocols," health department officials posted on Facebook.
The video was posted by a co-worker from Popeyes, Shakita Schemere, who showed the dirty scene after she was asked to clean up. Shemere repeated the word "sick" as she recorded dirty dishes, water covered the floor, vermin and flesh uncovered were frozen.
The Detroit Health Department said it will work with the location of Popeyes to ensure that the restaurant is in compliance with regulations before it reopens.
Popeye's corporate offices responded, saying that public health and safety are top priorities for the chain.
"We understand that the franchisee who owns and operates this site is currently working with local health authorities and taking all appropriate measures to ensure that the restaurant is safe for all guests and team members," said Popeyes officials.
