Disney banned smoking and began steaming at its theme parks from May 1, the company announced Thursday.
The smoking areas disappear into Walt Disney World and Disneyland theme parks, including the water parks and the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, according to a Disney blog post.
In a move, new designated smoking areas will be available outside the entrances. Disney hopes that the flow of guests in the often crowded parks will be reduced.
Later this year, both Disneyland and Disney World open Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, a 14-acre extension that is expected to attract large crowds. A smoking area in Disneyland is being removed because it is near the new country.
"It's about time," said Dennis Speigel, president of the Ohio-based International Theme Park Service. "It's the luckiest place on earth … why should people in smoke be exposed to smoke?"
Speigel expects the other parks to explore their smoking policy as well.
Disney is often a leader in the theme park industry. When Disney World increases its entry into the amusement park or increases its pay for workers, Universal and SeaWorld usually follow suit.
Universal Orlando and SeaWorld spokespeople did not immediately respond with a comment.
Disney World prohibits smoking in hotel rooms and on the balconies. However, the resorts have distinctive smoking areas on their property. Smoking is still allowed in certain areas of Disney Springs in Florida.
In Walt Disney World Parks, the enforcement of smoking is left to the employees, which is similar to today's approach of Disney, said Disney spokeswoman Erica Ettori. Disney does not plan to punish visitors if they are caught violating the rules.
Employees are expected to ask smokers in the parks to go to the designated area and light up in front of the entrance. Visitors can return to the park after they stop smoking, even though Disney still permeates as they are picked up by the wires, Ettori said.
The current smoking areas at Magic Kingdom make a small footprint. the busiest theme park in the world, with only two smoking areas and one outside the gate.
It's not the first time that Disney has made a statement about smoking. Since 201
The change was made when Disney revised its guidelines to ban loose or dry ice in cool boxes to streamline the process of bag testing and reduced oversized strollers.
Ice has been banned since Thursday. "We recommend that you instead keep your items chilly with reusable ice packs," said a blog post from Disney. He added that the fast food outlets offer free cups of ice for refrigerators.
As of May 1, pram carriages are used large enough to take the belongings of children and visitors – are also prohibited.
"We are adjusting our guidelines for stroller sizes, which require a width of 79 cm and a length of 132 cm," said the post office. "The good news – many strollers on the market, including many jogging strollers, fit in this scale. "
