Michigan residents attempting to abandon a cigarette habit may receive free nicotine patches, chewing gum or lozenges from the state this summer as part of a nationwide effort to reduce smoking-related illnesses residents who use the Michigan Tobacco Quitline under 800-QUIT Calling NOW or 800-784-8669 will be offered nicotine patches, chewing gum or lozenges for up to eight weeks.
Free Smoking Cessation Products Available Until September 30, government officials said the Quitline is available 24/7 to residents of Michigan.
The offer coincides with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Centers' "Tips from former smokers" campaign, which highlights stories of people living with the effects of smoking-related illnesses and exposure to secondhand smoke.
"The CDC Campaign" Tips "reminds people of the harmful effects of smoking and links them to key resources such as the Michigan Tobacco Quitline," Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, MDHHS chief physician and deputy director of health, in a statement. "MDHHS is committed to getting Michigan tobacco products out of business and reducing the risk of tobacco-related diseases, such as cancer and heart disease."
