An Alabama woman suffering from stomach problems and unexplained weight gain turned out to be a huge cyst in her body.
Not losing weight and looking as if she was pregnant
Kayla Rahn said that she had difficulty with her daily activities as a result of the massive tissue layer, which made her feel exhausted even after she got to her car had gone.
She was first advised by doctors that she only had to lose weight, but her efforts were useless. She seemed to gain weight even after about a year of trying to lose weight.
She reported that she looked as if she was nine months pregnant. Someone even asked her if she had any twins.
When the pain became overwhelming, Rahn's mother took her to the emergency room at Jackson Hospital. A series of tests showed that she has a large mass in one of her ovaries.
The next day, on May 26, doctors performed an operation to remove the 50-pound ovarian cyst.
Gregory Jones, one of the doctors who performed the surgery, said that He has seen this before, but he was still surprised by the huge size of the cyst.
"This is one of the biggest I've ever seen or safely removed," Jones said. "We are very excited, she was fine."
Rahn had a mucinous cystadenoma. Mucinous cystadenoma is a benign cystic tumor that accounts for between 1
Rahn's cyst was undetected for months, but now that the root of her illness has finally been removed, she says she's excited to get back to work. She also said that she felt that a big burden had been taken from her.
"Thanks to our incredible doctors here at Jackson Hospital for their help," Jackson Hospital said in a statement. "After Dr. Sample made the discovery, Dr. Seirafi and Dr. Jones were able to remove the cyst and make Kayla feel much better."
Jones encouraged everyone to trouble their doctor if they did not get better if they suspect something is wrong.
Rahn's case is similar to that of Kevin Daly. Everyone thought his big belly was just beer belly, but it turned out to be a beach ball sized tumor weighing 30 pounds. The doctors had to remove one of his kidneys because the tumor was wrapped in his organs.
