The appearance of Keanu Reeves at the Microsoft Xbox E3 2019 press conference, announcing the release date for Cyberpunk 2077, was undoubtedly one of the most memorable events in the entire show (at least so far). Now it has become known that Microsoft has made great efforts to keep Reeves' appearance a secret.
Xbox boss Phil Spencer told Variety that Microsoft used a replacement for Reeves during rehearsals. Not only that, but also Reeves was codenamed. The report states that Reeves did not enter the Microsoft Theater until the morning of his performance.
Also in the interview, Spencer admitted that he was not sure what to do next. He said he saw some celebrities who have faded over the years. However, after Microsoft had seen a report by developer CD Project Red, who had the idea for Reeves' appearance, he was convinced that he would be "very authentic," Spencer said.
