E3 2019: Microsoft made great efforts to keep Keanu Reeves secret at his press conference

The appearance of Keanu Reeves at the Microsoft Xbox E3 2019 press conference, announcing the release date for Cyberpunk 2077, was undoubtedly one of the most memorable events in the entire show (at least so far). Now it has become known that Microsoft has made great efforts to keep Reeves' appearance a secret.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer told Variety that Microsoft used a replacement for Reeves during rehearsals. Not only that, but also Reeves was codenamed. The report states that Reeves did not enter the Microsoft Theater until the morning of his performance.

Also in the interview, Spencer admitted that he was not sure what to do next. He said he saw some celebrities who have faded over the years. However, after Microsoft had seen a report by developer CD Project Red, who had the idea for Reeves' appearance, he was convinced that he would be "very authentic," Spencer said.

CD Project Red talked to GameSpot at E3 this week about how they involved Reeves. They contacted him about the role a year ago and the studio said his role ̵

1; Johnny Silverhand – would only work with Reeves. "It was always him or no one else for the role," Miles Tost of CD Project Red said, adding that he was glad the news was not leaked. Keanu Reeves was brought on board for cyberpunk in 2077. For more information on Reeves' role in Cyberpunk 2077, see GameSpot Story 4, Xbox One, and PC below.
