While Howie Roseman was active in the free agent and trading market, trying to improve his roster, he was as busy internally as to revise the contracts of the players who were already nearby to save space.
Roseman, the executive vice president of the Eagles football division, has already restructured the contracts for the right tackle lane Johnson, the tight Zach Ertz and the quarterback Nick Foles.
Add Guardian Brandon Brooks to the list. The Eagles restructured Brooks' deal following a ESPN report converted part of his $ 8.75 million base salary into bonuses and reduced his chapter number from $ 1
According to the NFLPA's official salary cap report, before the Brooks restructuring, the Eagles had around $ 1.6 million in cap and should now have around $ 8 million.
Eagles 7-round Mock Draft
Brooks is one of the best Interior Offensive Lineman in the NFL since signing with the Eagles in 2016 after four years with the Houston Texans. Pro Football Focus rates him as the third-best guard in the NFL last season.
Now that the Eagles have some breathing space, this may suggest that a few more moves might be possible.
First, the Eagles could pursue additional free agents. By that time, in 2017, the Eagles had yet to sign, LeGarrette Blount, security run back to Corey Graham and had not yet traded for cornerback Ronald Darby. It would be useful if Roseman was following the draft Veterans Free Agent or if the players were released with the appointment after June 1st.
This may indicate that the Eagles are not motivated to trade outside linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who is said to have been on the trading block since the Eagles signed Corey Nelson. Trading or releasing Kendricks would save the Eagles $ 4.4 million in the profit zone, but now they no longer need this immediate liability as urgently as before the Brooks restructuring. Kendricks could still be moved, especially when the Eagles are designing a linebacker.
The point on the Eagles' agenda probably refers to recipient Nelson Agholor. The Eagles will soon have to decide whether to pursue Agholor's fifth season option to retain him in the 2019 season. They are expected to do it. If not, Agholor would become a freelance agent next season.
