Michael Bennett plays both DE and DT
Eagles defensive lineman Michael Bennett will have to wear many hats for defense this season. It is expected that he rushes the passersby from the edge. He is expected to pull in during a defensive attack. The Eagles will need him against the run and also the pass. He could lead the series in snapshots.
Taking full responsibility is nothing new to Bennett.
"That's natural for me." That's the position I've been playing since I came into the league, said Bennett. "The last seven or eight years, playing in, out-dependent on the game board."
Will the transition to a new team and a new defense slow down its ability to play multiple positions?
"Nope. It's still, "Bennett said," after a week or two you'll find out and you'll be leaving. "
Bennett is impressed with the Eagles' line of defense
When Bennett was sold to the Eagles, he made clear how impressed he was with all the talent already on his new line of defense.
Now that he saw it in person? He is even more impressed.
"I think it's out standing, I think if we get back (Brandon Graham) and (Timmy Jernigan), it'll be even better Haloti is awesome Fletch is one of the top three techniques Josh Sweat is we have a lot of great players, we'll come out and find out that the rotation is the hardest thing for the coaches, but that's a great thing to have a rotation today I've seen a lot of great players. " Will Bennett get upset if he does not start?
Of course it is a fact that there are so many talented players that not everyone will start. There can only be two start-defensive ends. There is only one defensive tackle spot open, and that is the case if Jernigan is not ready for the first week.
The talented line could lead Bennett to leave the bench for the first time in four seasons
"Obviously I do not care," Bennett said. "But at the same time I will not make it the most important thing for me, the most important thing for me is just to get into the game and play as high as possible."
While Bennett is obviously impressed by the talent on the line, he believes his resume speaks for itself.
"I was also prolific. I was a pro-bowler last year for three-four consecutive years. I was in the league in quarterback hits. Top when (tackling losses)," Bennett said. "I'm not coming to be just a guy, I'm going to be the guy, one of the guys, so we'll see how it goes, I'm a competitor in the heart, I'll work as hard as I can every week." And if he does not start?
"If it does not happen, it does not happen," Bennett said. "But at the same time, I enter into the mindset I always have – I will be one of the best defensive linemen, it's just in my DNA and that's who I will be."
