Anthony Davis' early trading demand created an interesting precedent. Could the league hold its unmistakable All-Star Festival without Davis wanting to put the Lakers in the way?
In the end, Davis was not traded. Dell Demps, general manager of New Orleans, did not want to be cornered by Davis and his agent Rich Paul, who also happens to represent Lakers star LeBron James. However, on Friday, thousands met at Charlotte to celebrate the game along with the current state Stars and Legends – and in memory of the so-called midpoint of the 2018-19 season – Demps was fired.
So much for limiting collateral damage.
"The timing is strange," said a Western Conference board member to Bleacher Report. "I think [Demps] it was good just to be patient, I think the majority of us in the field office said he did the right thing, there was no hurry." In fact, why should Demps have gone into trading Davis to the Lakers when, in a few months, the Celtics could call with an offer of train picks and possibly Jayson Tatum
Or if the Knicks might be with Zion's No. 1 Williamson would call and other assets?
"It's interesting for him to fire him," said the Western Conference executor. "I think they were frustrated with how things were handled and the fact that he left the arena."
It turned out that the last sip for Demp's & # 39; term in New Orleans came on Thursday night when Davis had injured his shoulder a collision and came out of the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder. He then went with his agent to a local hospital that angered Pelicans owner Gayle Benson Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN

"As Alvin [Gentry, the Pelicans coach] put it, it's a dumpster," said a prominent representative "It had to be the last straw, because obviously they had been thinking about firing it, they're not firing anyone just because of this incident."
To summarize: Demps has not sacrificed power to James James's power play. Davis and her joint agent to bring the Pelicans All-Star to the Lakers. And the Pelicans and Lakers both suffered as half of James's teammates had to deal with hard feelings as their names floated in trading opportunities.
Davis – whose status for the remainder of the season was already a matter Mark – left the arena on Thursday night and was examined outside of the team's medical records. And the next day the director-general was dismissed.
So many off-court actions no longer cross the All-Star weekend.
"You can not let agents dictate the law of the country right now, that's crazy," said the Western Conference Exec. "If [Demps] then gave in, you would have seen more top agents playing the power game, and that would be a big problem in our league."
During the tenure of Demps, who began in the 2010/11 season, New Orleans made three playoffs and won a series. In 2014-15, former coach Monty Williams received a playoff mandate for a team that had not won more than 34 games in the last three seasons.
The Pelicans won 45 games, made the playoffs and were swept by the eventual champion Warriors in the first round. Demps fired Williams anyway after the season in a move that had possibly condemned him and the franchise to failure.
On the other side of this lineup, Demps had to be more creative when he was with winners for Davis for the limited time that he had such a superstar on his list. He could not do it.

"With small market teams, you have to be really creative," said an Eastern Conference executive. "They will not get the big stars [in free agency] their job was to make this team good with him now, the boys are making all the money, but they want to win championships, they want to win now, AD sees LeBron and Kevin Durant Moves and Wins the Championship, and he says, "I want to do that, too."
There was general consensus among the rival front-office leaders who talked to B / R that Demps was popular and attempts were made The general consensus was also a sense of surprise that Demps kept as long as he was in this job.
Rachel Nichols, presenter of ESPN's "The Jump", chats with Howard Beck about the all-star game, the latest twists in the drama surrounding LeBron James and how small market teams can avoid the same fate as the pelicans.
While none of Demp's at the launch Jrue could be guilty of holidays In 2013, the pelicans also made their curious moves. Solomon Hill and E & # 25; Twaun Moore are skilled additions, but if they help clog the cap without significantly increasing the playoff hopes, this is a problem. Demps proved to be capable of forming a playoff contender, but that only gets you to swap claims when free representation is visible in the distance.
"My first reaction was:" What took so long? "" An agent said.

Alvin Gentry mentioned that Anthony Davis injured the building after injuring his shoulder. Asked if it bothered him, he said, "I'll talk about the guys who played the game. They did a great job. We have found a way to win the game. That's what's important.
