A former Port Authority official presented credentials and told two New Jersey police officers "shut up" during a traffic disruption that forced them to resign this week. Caren Turner, a board member of the Port Authority, who oversees the ethics committee, harassed a pair of Tenafly police officers during a traffic disruption involving their teenage daughter on the Easter weekend.
She called on officials to call her on the title and specifics of To know traffic stops.
The cops refused to fulfill their wishes, except to briefly explain that the vehicle was not registered and would be towed.
"You're only here as a driver," an officer told Turner.
But Turner insisted she was "here as a concerned citizen and a friend of the mayor."
One of the officers was visibly stunned in the shots on March 31
His partner told Turner she had no right to know what stopped traffic, but she protested.
"This is my daughter," Turner said, later boasting that she and her friends are Ph.D. students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Yale and University.
"She's the backseat passenger, she was not the driver, this is not her vehicle, this is not your vehicle," he said.
Every moment of the 16-minute clip that Politico first received showed that Turner stepped closer and closer to one of the officers until he pushed against the cruiser's bonnet
"Ma'am, take a step back. I can not go back and you keep coming back to me, "he said.
Then she condemned both lawmakers as a" disappointment "for facing her.
"I hope you have a really nice holiday weekend because You just ruined it from people, "Turner said.
One of the policemen standing by during the tense backlash asked," Are you done?
Turner had more to say.
"Shame I'm talking to the chief of police and I'm going to talk to the mayor," she threatened as the five passengers shuttled to another car.
She came with another Round of insults "You're not a nice person and five people are crying. You ruined her Easter. You ruined your Passover. "Tur scolded, adding that there was a foreign guest among them.
" You have an investment banker from London there, "she said.
The officer at the heart of her Turner's wrath made it during the encounter that took place outside the camera.
"You do not seem like a true police follower," he said, "especially for someone working with members of law enforcement." Seems like you're getting the job look at. I was surprised only by your behavior by using inappropriate words.
Turner resigned as port authority until Monday when she resigned when the news of a General Inspector's investigation into her misconduct became known, and former NJ Governor Chris Christie named her to the board in 2017.
The Port Authority said on Monday that it had been charged with violating the Board's "newly adopted Code of Ethics."
