Yovana Mendoza, aka Rawvana, the now-infamous YouTuber, who became involved in a scandal after the fans caught her with a fish dish, comments and defends her decision to move away from a vegan diet.
Mendoza, 28, tells BuzzFeed News "Your intentions are and always have been good." She said she was simply unwilling to bring her nutritional change to the public at the time of her exposure.
"I wanted to make sure this was something I really needed to do and would really feel better before I publicly share it," she said.
She also wants to eat whatever she wants or needs without being ashamed. "I listen to my body and learn to get used to myself and others without judging for myself," she said. "It makes me sad to see so much hatred on the internet."
Last Friday, Influencers and Vloggers had to upload a 33-minute video to YouTube explaining why they seemed to be eating meat in a different video from Vlogger.
Mendoza said she had dealt with a number of health issues while concentrating on a vegan diet, and once tried a 25-day water fast. She said the doctors had told her that she had a small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) and they recommended changing her diet to eggs and meat.
Two months ago, she started eating eggs and fish again, claiming her overall health. Unfortunately, for Mendoza, her public address on the topic just caused her fans to get more angry with her. Some were accused of deceiving them, while others accused them of eating more and more animal products.
Now she wants to make a few things clear to the vegan online community and other sharp critics: it does not humiliate a herbal diet, and it's not planning to give up on it.
"Although some have put a lot of words into my mouth and made numerous assumptions and allegations, I never said that a plant-based diet made me get SIBO," she said. "This lifestyle has changed my life in so many positive ways, including health for years."
When asked why she continued to post days and weeks ahead of her vegan lifestyle, Mendoza told Buzzfeed News she was "still" an advocate for this lifestyle.
"I think this diet has incredible benefits and the vegan lifestyle makes us more aware of the way we live our lives, from which we can all learn and grow, "she said.
The creator finally hinted that during the transition they would" have their private time "but needed to talk about it in more detail later."
"When I'm done, I plan to share my recovery trip with UBS Public … the good, the bad, the doubt, and everything in between," said she.
