WASHINGTON (WCMH) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation urges everyone to restart their home and office routers to prevent malware attacks by foreign actors.
According to a public announcement by the FBI, foreign cyber actors have potentially compromised hundreds of thousands of routers and network devices around the world with VPNFilter malware. The malware can collect information, exploit devices, block network traffic, and disable routers.
The FBI says owners of small office and home office routers should restart the devices to disrupt the malware. You should also consider turning off remote management settings on your devices and resetting their passwords. Users should update network devices to the latest firmware version to prevent further malware attacks.
