WASHINGTON ̵

1; Federal authorities have charged two Chinese intelligence officers and a team of hackers Tuesday with stealing US and French aircraft technology over a five-year period.

The intelligence officials, Zha Rong and Chai Meng, worked for the Ministry of State Security of Jiangsu Province in Nanjing, a local overseas department of the Chinese Ministry of Domestic Security. The engine was developed through a partnership between a French company with an office in Jiangsu Province and a US company.

Prosecutors say members of the conspiracy used insiders to hack the French company, while hackers also introduced cyber intrusions into companies made parts for the engine, including companies based in Massachusetts, Arizona and Oregon.

"For the third time since September, the National Security Division and its US judicial authorities have filed charges against Chinese intelligence officials of the JSSD and the United States for those working on their leadership and control to steal American intellectual property," John said C. Demers, Deputy Prosecutor General for National Security. "This is just the beginning, and together with our federal partners, we will step up our efforts to secure America's genius and investment."
