Florida officials investigate the "suspected" death of newborn twins – and they arrested their mother for child neglect.
Police said they had been summoned to a home in West Melbourne, Florida, around noon on Sunday. There they found a child dead and a second newborn died after being taken to the hospital. PEOPLE has confirmed that the newborns were twins, but no information about their gender or whether they were identical or fraternal.
"There are suspicious circumstances involved," the West Melbourne Police said in a statement. "Investigators and crime scene investigators are currently working with the coroner's office to investigate the cause and manner of death."
Her mother, Rachael Lynn Thomas, 30, was arrested for two child neglect charges in connection with the deaths of children, affirms the human being. It is also faced with a charge of manipulating with evidence.
Richard Cordeau, police chief of West Melbourne, told clickorlando.com that the police are investigating how two babies could have died at about the same time.

The police say other children live with Thomas and the newborn at home. The case was referred to the Department of Children and Family. A DCF spokesman could not immediately tell PEOPLE how to investigate.
The coroner's office performs an autopsy to see how the children died. Authorities say it may take several weeks for all results to be available, including toxicological reports.
Thomas will be charged on Tuesday. It is held at $ 30,000. She has not yet submitted a request, and it is unclear whether she has appointed a lawyer to represent her.
