Forget about AT & T's fake & # 39; 5G E & # 39 ;: Here are the real 5G phones that are coming

Earlier this year, US airline AT & T had heat (and becomes ) due to the "5G E" connectivity on some of its cell phones Accused iPhones . This is despite the fact that network technology remains unchanged from 4G. John Donovan, CEO of AT & T Communications, defended the company and said he was proud that AT & T had "broken" the narrative of the industry, whatever that meant.

AT & T is completely misleading, but it's understandable why the company wants a jump to 5G. 5G is the latest generation of mobile technology that will connect users to a super-fast cellular network. On April 4, AT & T's competitor Verizon launched its 5G network in parts of in downtown Chicago and Minneapolis . CNET editor Jessica Dolcourt was able to experience the network in Chicago first hand, but was not as fast or reliable as she had expected.

More The 5G deployment is likely to take place this year and next, with network operators everywhere providing the infrastructure needed to build a faster and more extensive wireless network.

Apple is in no hurry to launch a 5G iPhone – do not expect this year even a year or even 2020. Except for the headphone jack (the iPhone 7 was one of the first phones, Apple is not usually one That is not the first time in terms of mobile trends, and prefers to perfect an emerging technology before committing to it. For example, it was behind its rivals in producing 3G and 4G LTE connectivity telephones when these networks were just launched. Intel executives said Intel will not have 5G modem chips by 2020 (Apple uses Intel chips in its iPhones).

This does not mean that 5G is not completely ignored. As mentioned earlier, some AT & T iPhone models show the "5G E" icon on their network, even though it's misleading.

Apple did not respond to a comment request.

Google has not announced its plans for 5G, and the company declined to respond to a request for comment. What we do know is that Verizon said it plans to roll out its 5G network in early 2019 much like other airlines.

What does that have to do with Google? In recent years, Google has selected Verizon as its exclusive carrier partner for its Pixel phones, including the new Pixel 3 . However, the company also sells the phone over an unlocked phone or through its Wi-Fi-first network. Google Fi.

This could mean that Google's next flagship, probably called Pixel 4, is a 5G phone. If the usual phone start-up schedule is met, Pixel 4 is expected to be in October 2019 – well after the first half of the year.

At this year's MWC, LG presented the V50 ThinQ 5G . As expected, the phone will be available in the US via Sprint. (LG first confirmed this in August 2018 when it became known that a 5G phone was developed ). The V50 will also be Sprint's first 5G phone, but will also be available later this year in Verizon, T-Mobile and AT & T's 5G Ultra Wideband network. ( Sprint is expected to be merged with T-Mobile a move the carrier-speed analyst Ookla said: "could lead to an unsurpassed network in the face of 5G.")

The phone has a 6.4-inch OLED display, three rear cameras that include a wide-angle and telephoto lens, the Snapdragon 855 chipset and two front-facing cameras. It can also be connected to a dual-screen accessory which increases the display size of the phone.

Lenovo / Motorola

Last August, Lenovo unveiled the Motorola Moto Z3 (19459004), a 5G-type phone. It can only work on 5G with a modular accessory Moto Mod connected with magnetic pins on the back of the phone. With the mod Motorola says that the phone delivers data ten times faster than other 4G LTE devices. When we tested Verizon's 5G network with the phone and the mod, Dolcourt noticed "theoretical download speeds of 600 Mbps". But at other times, "The download would start hard, the phone would flicker to show the 4G logo, and the speed would drop." The mod is now available for $ 200 (the full retail price is $ 350).

A Motorola phone that does not require any accessories to connect to 5G, the company is working on the production of such a device. But you have to wait much longer . Doug Michau, director of technical sales and operations for Motorola Mobility, said the phone would arrive much later than early 2019. More precisely, Michau said it would "definitely have less than three years, but not yet a timeframe".

With the two hottest phone trends in 5G speeds and foldable displays, Huawei announced Mate X at MWC 2019. The unit has a 6.6-inch display folded and an 8-inch OLED screen when you open it. It also has a 4,500 mAh battery and three rear cameras. The Mate X is expected to be released in the middle of the year and will cost a whopping 2,300 euros.

The phone will not be coming to the US. The US government called it a security threat to the Department of Defense and banned the sale of Huawei cell phones to US military bases . Retail Giant Best Buy No Longer Sells It in March 2018, and Huawei's Chief Financial Officer was arrested in Canada at the request of the US in one of her father's politically motivated act , Italy also wants to ban the supply of 5G devices.

However, this does not necessarily mean the end of Huawei and his 5G ambitions. "Our products and solutions are used by major carriers, Fortune 500 companies, and hundreds of millions of consumers in over 170 countries around the world," said a Huawei spokesman in March last year . "We have earned the trust of our partners in the global value chain."

OnePlus afforded us a limited insight into a prototype of its first 5G phone at MWC 2019. The phone is being sold on the British 5G network in 2019 will span 16 cities, starting with London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham and Manchester.

The 5G phone is scheduled to fail in 2019 and will run on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset . , Even the telephone would not be part of the main line of OnePlus . Instead, it would be a separate phone designed specifically to use the high-speed network. Do not expect Verizon to be hit in the near future. Expect, however, that will cost more than previous OnePlus phones .

Although Nokia is not the phone giant that was [159 years ago] it is still taking steps toward a 5G future. ZTE is currently working with eight international carriers to conduct 5G tests. While the future of ZTE in the US is in the air a recent (19459003 now resolved ) banned telephone ban is because the company has violated the trade sanctions . Chinese phone maker Xiaomi remixed his Mi Mix 3 with a new 5G model . Perfectly named Mi Mix 3 5G, the phone costs 599 euros and will start in May. It is unlikely that the phone will be available in the US. The company's first 5G network partners include many European network operators, including Orange, Sunrise, Telefonica, Three, TIM and Vodafone.

The phone itself has a 6.39-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 845 processor, and two 12-megapixel rear-view cameras. CNET editor Aloysius Low called it "almost the perfect phone" and also mentioned that it's not water repellent, nor does its front camera have a secure 3D face unlock.

OnePlus's sister company Oppo announced that it is a prototype at MWC and plans to launch a 5G phone this year to publish. The device includes a Snapdragon 855 chipset and is based on the Oppo Find X phone. When it was released last year, we thought Find X was one of the best mobile phones of 2018. It has a unique pop-up camera, a beautiful design and a quick recharge.

Although unlikely to come to the US, the 5G version is expected to be released between April and June. Oppo works with four carriers (Swisscom, Australia's Telstra and Optus and Singtel in Singapore) to introduce the phone. It is also partnering with China Mobile to sell the phone in the summer.
