In addition to the ongoing 50v50 event, Epic has launched a new time-limited mode in Fortnite: Battle Royale. Over the next few days, players on PS4, Xbox One, PC and mobile devices will be able to participate in the Solo Showdown, a time-limited contest to determine the best Battle Royale player.
Unlike earlier time-limited modes, Solo Showdown offers no gimmicks or changes to the underlying gameplay. Rather, it is an ongoing contest against other self-selected players, which Epic calls "the ultimate survival test." Players compete for a place in the ranking, and those with a high score at the end of the competition will be rewarded with a huge prize from V-Bucks.
According to the Solo Showdown Rules, the first 50 Battle Royale matches you play count towards your score and you must play at least 50 games to win one of the prizes. Your rankings in each game are tracked and determine your ranking.
The player who comes first at the end of the competition will take home as many as 50,000 V-Bucks. Places two to four receive 25,000 V-Bucks, and players in fifth to fiftieth place receive 1
"We will use the Solo Showdown as a unique springboard to learn how to build great events for all types of players," Epic said. As an added incentive to enter the contest, anyone who plays at least 50 games will receive a unique spray regardless of whether or not they are in the top 100.
The Solo Showdown is now up and running until 7am / 10pm ET on 21st May. Epic says it will regularly update its official blog with the leaderboard. The developer also teases that there will be a "big announcement about the competitive game" next week, though it did not suggest what that might be.
