Fortnite 's Summer Skirmish is a pure eSports event that spills over $ 8 million throughout the summer. A Friday tournament winner was accused of cheating, and developer Epic came to defend the player.
In a reddit thread with over 34,000 upvotes, competitor iDropz_bodies was accused of mimicking a large payout on the first day
Claims against iDropz_bodiez, known for his Destiny but in the Fortnite community, they are diverse but depend on allegations of manipulating statistics, leaving games as they begin and simultaneously queuing up with other players to gain easier kills against willing opponents to get. In addition, there is a continuing rumor in the thread and elsewhere that the player uses a mouse and keyboard to play on his PS4, which means that he would have an unfair advantage over other PS4 players who only have his control of the leaderboard against his PC competitors.
The evidence used is the performance statistics from iDropz_bodiez and the replays of the matches he streamed to his twitch channel after the Friday tournament. However, this twitch channel has been blocked since streaming the videos, making it difficult to externally validate the claims. Via Twitter's direct message, iDropz_bodiez told Kotaku that the e-mail he received from Twitch was that the reason for channel suspension was "hateful content", which he believes is related to past remarks stands. iDropz_bodiez has also said Kotaku that he will upload his match replays to his YouTube channel. Kotaku asked Twitch for a comment but did not hear it before the release.
An additional crease in the allegations is that the Summer Skirmish event was not structured as a traditional competition event. Instead, it was a high score of ten solo matches in which players competed against each other in their own games and reported these scores on a ranked leaderboard. iDropz_bodiez is a player on the PS4 platform, while many of the more recognizable participants are on the PC.
Developers Epic, however, have released a statement that defends iDropz_bodies from fraud allegations and independently calls analytics as proof that no fouling has taken place. Although not linked to the above reddit thread, the statement reads like a point-by-point response, explaining that its analysis shows that none of the claims in the reddit thread have any value.
Epic's statement suggests that the ranking sites that use community members to create their theories, such as Fortnite Tracker, often work with incomplete information at some point. In addition, none of their tracking analysis showed that there was any sort of collusion to get extra kills, nor is iDropz_bodies with a mouse and keyboard (he said Kotaku that he uses a cinch controller) i I've seen the allegations against iDropz_bodies as simply an unrecognized name that turns out to be more recognizable competitors from the Fortnite community. In a video posted on Twitter the streamer Wish You Luck has even gone so far as to label the community riot slanderous and called on Epic to blame other competitive players involved in the fraud allegations.
In response to a question from Kotaku about the allegations in general, iDropz_bodies wrote: "I'm not sure what to say about all the negativity, I got a chance and made the best of it. Today, I've really shown that you can not be successful without hate, but I was not alone, I had the Destiny community by my side, and without her, I'm not sure if I could have accepted it . "
