Four suggestions for baseball's next collective bargaining agreement – The Athletic



In mid-December, I wrote a column arguing that teams should make a run at Bryce Harper. More than a month later, Harper remains unsigned. So does Manny Machado. So does Dallas Keuchel. So many other high-profile free agents.

Why is, I do not know. Alex Rodriguez has said that owners are "happy to be safe".

I do not think they are colluding, but I do believe they are short-sighted, and, perhaps, a little greedy. The numbers back up, too. Players are receiving a smaller percentage of league revenue. In 2018, they received approximately 40.1 percent of league revenue; 15 years ago, they received 48.9 percent.

That is a problem ̵

1; and will be a major point of contention when the collective bargaining agreement expires on December 2021.
