Singing singer Scott Walker passed away at the age of 76, his record label 4AD announced today that it was a bit scary that his death – which took place on March 22 ̵
Scott Walker was born in Hamilton, Ohio, as Noel Scott Engel. As a member of the Walker Brothers, who were pretty much the 60s equivalent of a boy band, Scott Walker experienced a phenomenal commercial success in the UK. They scored hits like "The Sun Ain Shine Anymore," "Just do it for yourself" and "My ship is coming in," while selling an adorable pop rock that breathes and ponders with a light Hand balanced, no different from what the contemporary Lee Hazlewood did. Scott's songs on the group's 1998 swan song, Nite Flights however, indicate more experimental future releases by the singer – particularly "The Electrician".
Exhausted by the pace and emptiness of pop star life, Scott went solo in 1967, releasing four albums that made him a different kind of star – a cult icon revered by folks seeking profound literacy and power , complex emotions, and long for orchestral, continental sophistication. Most importantly, Walker continued to refine his voice, an instrument of feathered gravity that could radiate with unshakeable conviction flaring elation or chthonic cynicism.
My favorite song of this quartet of trenchant troubadourism is "Get Behind Me", a filigree acoustic guitar ballad whose cryptic lyrics seem to revolve around the protagonist's struggle to overcome sinister (satanic?) Powers. The song thrives on a psycho-pop sunburst that, despite all likelihood, suggests that anything is possible, thanks in part to the up-and-coming cork-pulling bass line of legendary session musician Herbie Flowers.
(I'll reconsider Walker's mid-seventies LPs of cover-heavy MOR pop, because I did not hear them, and they're – as I've heard from respected observers – rightly not pamphletecked and worth the effort At some point I am motivated to hear and blow away these alleged aberrations, but that seems unlikely.)
After a long break, Walker returned with 1984 Climate of Hunter ] an elusive collection of art songs that Many were astonished at their release and had a strange collection of guest musicians: Ray Russell, Mark Knopfler, Evan Parker, Billy Ocean and others. After another, even longer break, Walker emerged with the 1945 tilt released in the USA on this bastion of indie rock perversity, Drag City. It is doubtful that someone saw that came. Even stranger was the music, a tar black representation of the chamber orchestra concrète . The songs here radiate a distorted beauty that really sounds like the 11th; The "The Cockfighter" even forges a shattering bolt of catastrophic industrial techno.
Walker attracted the vaunted British label 4AD for the year 2006 The Drift the year 2012 Bish Bosch (2012) and Soused a collaboration with drones of 2014. Doom Metal Titans Sunn O))). This unexpected combination works better than the similar legend from the aging legend and the heavy metal god of Lou Reed and Metallica, Lulu . These late-career works led Walker's aesthetics to even more extreme areas of abstraction and heaviness.
The transformations of Scott Walker's career were, to say the least, unusual. He set the bar high for artists who do exactly what they want and in their own time frame. Against the prevailing trends in music history Walker became more adventurous and uncompromising with age. His path was pretty much an exemplary artistic path, and there was enough great music to inspire a dedicated listener for a lifetime.
The former Seattle-based producer and musician, Randall Dunn, weighed in with a nice laudation on Facebook.
The music of Scott Walker made me make better records. Be more fearless with sound. It saved my life in some of my darkest hours and truly made me feel love through the turn of an amazing lyric. The worlds he has created will always resonate deep within me as I sit and make music. He was an amazing poet, conceptualist, producer and musician. We're losing some of the last great sources of magic these days and today I feel like it's a family and it hurts. Rest in peace Scott Walker.

It is very sad to hear that Scott Walker has passed away. He had a great impact on Radiohead and myself and showed me how to use my voice and my words. I met him once at Meltdown, a gentle outsider. He will be very missed. https://t.co/v33Ey91hbn[19459011-ThomYorke(@thomyorke) March 25, 2019
